Alexander’s practice primarily involves law enforcement and regulatory interest from the SFO, NCA, HMRC, FCA, and their foreign counterparts, including the US DOJ and SEC. He has notable experience in SFO-related matters, having acted in many prominent bribery and fraud investigations.

He also conducts internal investigations for corporate clients in relation to suspected financial crime matters, and regularly provides specialist advice on more complex aspects of financial crime legislation and the implementation of preventative measures.

Alexander has extensive knowledge and experience of the law and procedure relating to the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and asset forfeiture. He regularly advises firms in connection with money laundering issues, including obligations arising from suspected criminal conduct, and the risks from arrangements involving the proceeds of such conduct.

A substantial volume of Alexander’s work now involves advising individual and corporate clients on international financial sanctions, including compliance with the UK sanctions regulations and licencing regime, investigations into suspected sanctions breaches, and delisting applications.

Alexander also has notable experience in contentious financial services matters, advising individuals and firms subject to regulatory interest by the FCA and PRA, including recent involvement in a significant PRA enforcement action and a number of FCA criminal investigations.

Alexander practised at the independent Bar before moving into private practice as an employed barrister. He is a highly experienced trial lawyer, having appeared in the Court of Appeal, the High Court and a range of other tribunals. This experience underpins the strategic advice he provides to clients.
