Jonathan is a senior associate specialising in financial crime and regulatory matters. He has extensive experience acting for individuals and corporates in complex investigations and proceedings, particularly those with a cross-border or multi-agency dimension.
Jonathan’s expertise includes bribery and corruption, theft, fraud, false accounting and money laundering. He also has in-depth experience of ancillary matters such as restraint and confiscation, asset freezing and forfeiture, extradition and mutual legal assistance, and financial services investigations.
Jonathan has acted in cases brought by all the major domestic law enforcement agencies, including the Police, CPS, FCA, HMRC, NCA and SFO. He has also worked on cases involving overseas law enforcement agencies (in jurisdictions such as Gibraltar, Greece, Russia and the US) and international organisations (for example, multilateral development banks, international criminal courts and Interpol).
Jonathan acts for individuals at all stages of the criminal and regulatory process. He has a detailed knowledge and understanding of suspect/witness interviews, pre-charge representations, search and seizure powers, production orders, and the rules of evidence and procedure. He is particularly adept at representing individuals in high-profile or sensitive cases.
In addition, Jonathan acts for corporate clients across a wide range of business sectors, including art/antiquities, construction, mining, finance and high-end retail. He has experience of conducting internal investigations, designing financial crime compliance programmes and delivering senior management training. He also advises corporates on the criminal law risks associated with cyber security breaches and ransomware payments.

Career
Jonathan studied at the University of Oxford (BA Geography, First Class) and the University of Cambridge (MPhil Geography). After completing his academic and professional legal training in London, Jonathan was called to the Bar and undertook pupillage at a specialist criminal chambers. He qualified as a barrister in 2014. Jonathan then worked as an associate at BCL before joining a leading international law firm. He rejoined BCL as a senior associate in 2024.
